Technical co-founder · Startups · Leeds
Technical co-founder support for ambitious founders.
Build the business — we’ll help you build the product. Senior product and software leadership for non-technical founders who need to validate, launch and grow a serious digital product, without waiting months to find the perfect technical co-founder or building a full internal team before the product is ready.
You may not need a technical co-founder
You need someone who can challenge the idea, turn commercial priorities into a sensible product and take responsibility for getting it built properly.
AI has made prototypes faster and cheaper. It has also made it easier to build the wrong product quickly. Product judgement, security, data, integrations, reliability and the route from prototype to real business still require experienced ownership.
DevStack works alongside you with the mindset of a technical co-founder: asking difficult questions, explaining trade-offs clearly and connecting product decisions to the commercial opportunity.
The relationship remains clear and professional. You retain ownership of the business and its commercial direction. We provide the senior technical and product capability needed to move it forward.
For founders ready to move beyond the idea
This service is designed for founders who have identified a genuine problem and are ready to invest in proving and building the solution.
- You understand the customer and the problem you want to solve.
- You have evidence from customer conversations, market experience or early demand.
- You can lead the commercial side of the business while we lead the product and technical work.
- You have a realistic budget and want to use it carefully.
- You are willing to test assumptions rather than treating the first idea as fixed.
Probably not the right fit
We are unlikely to be the right partner if you only have an untested idea, want the entire product built in exchange for equity, are looking for the cheapest possible MVP, or expect technology to solve the customer and commercial work for you.
What we help you do
Challenge the opportunity before building
We help clarify the target customer, the problem, the value proposition and the assumptions most likely to undermine the idea. It is cheaper to challenge these questions before they become software.
Define the smallest credible product
An MVP should prove something commercially important. We separate what is essential for launch from what can wait, without turning the first release into an oversized programme.
Build and launch responsibly
DevStack takes responsibility for delivery from product definition through launch. The product is designed to be secure, maintainable and capable of supporting the next stage.
Learn and improve
After launch, we use customer behaviour and commercial feedback to decide what happens next. The roadmap stays connected to evidence, not a list of speculative features.
Prepare for growth or handover
We can remain your long-term technical partner, support a growing internal team or help transfer responsibility when you are ready to hire. Documentation, access and knowledge stay under your control.
A faster way to build, with senior judgement built in.
We use modern AI-assisted tools to accelerate research, prototyping, implementation, testing and documentation. This reduces repeatable effort and helps the team move quickly.
AI does not own the product or make unreviewed decisions. Experienced people remain accountable for scope, architecture, security, quality and every release.

A clear position on equity
We do not build unvalidated ideas in exchange for equity alone. Most engagements are paid professional partnerships, giving both sides clear responsibilities and allowing the product to be judged on commercial merit.
Where there is an exceptional strategic fit, any equity involvement would be a separate discussion, considered case by case. It should never replace customer evidence, founder commitment or a credible plan for funding the business.
Frequently asked questions
How early should we speak?
You do not need a finished specification. The best time is usually once you understand the customer problem and have some evidence that it is worth solving.
Do you work for equity?
Not as the default model, and not in exchange for building an unvalidated idea. Most projects are paid. Any wider involvement would be considered separately and only where there is a strong strategic fit.
Will we own the product?
Yes. Our normal approach is for the client to own the bespoke product and intellectual property once the agreed contractual and payment terms have been met.
Can you help us prepare for investment?
We can provide a credible product scope, roadmap, delivery plan and explanation of technical risks. We do not provide fundraising guarantees or replace the founder’s responsibility for the commercial case.
Can you help us build an internal team?
Yes. We can help define the roles required, support recruitment and transfer knowledge gradually when the company is ready.
What will the first stage cost?
That depends on the evidence already available and the uncertainty that needs resolving. We normally recommend a focused product clarity stage before committing to a full build.
